The public land grant research institute, University of Rhode Island (URI) is a research-based university located in Kingston, Rhode Island. The University offers degrees in 80 undergraduate and 49 graduate areas of study through eight academic colleges. The catalogue brims through the number of programs like Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Professional Studies, Engineering, Health Sciences, Environment and Life Sciences, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Another college, University College for Academic Success to cater to everyone’s choices. Each Year University welcomes 1,982 graduate students, and 1,339 non-degree students to be a part of the vibrant community of URI. Started as an Agriculture school in 1888 the University soon picked up the pace of advancement of development and in 1892 became well known as Rhode Island College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. It was later when University attained its name as the University of Rhode Island when more programs were added.

Campus Life

Designed by the notable landscape architects Olmsted, Olmsted & Eliot, the camps of the University display an amazing example of architecture. For students who are residents from out of the city, University offers a world-class housing facility which makes the student feel at home. The campus is a closed knit village of a community that is accepting, welcoming, diverse, inclusive and full of colours. Apart from excellent academic facilities like libraries, state- of – the art classrooms and laboratories, the university also provides excellent sports centres like Ryan Center, Keaney Gymnasium, Meade Stadium, Mackal Field House, Tootell Aquatic Center, Bradford R. Boss Arena, URI Soccer Complex, Bill Beck Field, and URI Softball Complex. With more than 17 clubs, organizations and societies run by the student bodies, one can never run out of options to explore the skills within them.

The list of alumni of URI is filled with a number of successful people, working at the frontline in their profession, it has seen the likes of Lamar Joseph Odom- an American professional basketball player, an American news anchor of CNN -John King, Anthony Sawyer Horton Jr.- an American personal trainer, author, and former actor and retired United States Army lieutenant general- Michael Thomas Flynn.
