Established in the year 1994 and located in Senate House, Bloomsbury, School of Advanced Study is the United Kingdom’s national center for social sciences and humanities-based research promotion and facilitation and is a postgraduate institution of the University of London. The university is situated near the British Library and British Museum and has collaborations with nine research institutes namely the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, the Institute of Historical Research, the Institute of Philosophy, the Institute of English Studies, the Warburg Institute, the Institute of Classical Studies, the Institute of Latin American Studies and the Institute of Modern Languages Research. Most of these institutes have long histories and provide specialist research services, develop digital resources, maintain and develop library collections, host visiting scholars and postdoctoral fellows and publish journals and book series along with organizing academic events such as workshops, seminars, conferences and lectures.

Campus Life

The libraries of the institutes of School of Advanced Study house about twelve miles of open shelves and three million volumes of several significant collections of humanities, arts and social sciences with over 100,000 readers of more than 200 nationalities. The school offers master’s and research degrees in social science and humanities and all of its students can register through the local doctor for free National Health care. School Registry, Institute Manager and course tutors will guide the students through academic or personal problems and all the students are offered with a confidential counselling 6-hour session at the Senate House fully funded by the School where any kind of issues like anxiety, depression, disabilities or other long term medical conditions can be discussed. The student body is represented by the SASiety which is a student-run organization and helps the students to connect and build strong social bonds by creating a community feeling within the campus.
