In 1878 the university was established as an agricultural and mechanical college. Campus Life

The university campus has 160 buildings and covers an area of approximately 4,200 acres, including farms, pastures and woodlands at the experiment station. MSU serves up exciting SEC sports action with their championship football, basketball and baseball teams. Over a hundred student organizations as well as clubs cover many areas of interest. The Famous Maroon Band, MSU road runners, and Lambda Sigma are some of the institute's outstanding groups. Moreover, the campus also provides a choice of apartment living. Students can choose one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and four-bedroom floor plans which are only a few steps away from the classrooms.
