Keyano College, located in Fort McMurry, Alberta, is a post-secondary college and was established in 1965. Previously the college was known as the Alberta Vocational Centre but later in 1975; it was renamed to Keyano which means “Sharing” in Cree. The college has three campuses from which the main campus is the Clearwater Campus in Fort McMurry, the second campus is Suncor Energy Industrial Campus, and the last is located in Fort Chipewyan. The college offers a variety of programs like certificate programs, diploma programs, one-year, two-year programs and many other programs in various fields. Programs like Aboriginal Entrepreneurship, Childhood Studies, Bachelor of Education, Environmental Technology, Office Administration, Human Resources Management, Social Work, and University Studies are offered to the students of this college.
Campus Life
Keyano College has around 2500 students full-time and part-time and approximately 260 academic staff members to help the students. The international students are also supported by offering them a course called Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada which is funded by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada which helps students to get familiar with the local language. Over 100 students take part in this course. Annually, students are also awarded several prizes which include financial support as well. In November 2019, around 235 students got awards worth $350000. Keyano College has its theatre as well, which hosts many famous personalities as well as concerts for student’s entertainment. In the field of sports as well, the students of this college do not lag. Students represent the college in games like basketball, soccer, volleyball, among many games.
